Address: Glyn Cornel, Llwynypia, Rhondda Cynnon Taff, CF40 2JF.

Google Maps: Click right here to view location on Google Maps

Parking: Hard standing car parking is available just below the clubhouse. It can get busy, additional parking is available through the main carpark into an extra hard standing area..

Clubhouse: Pentref has a large clubhouse with a seating and bow storage area inside.

Catering: A team of excellent volunteer cooks provide a range of hot and cold meals available for purchase from the kitchen.

Toilets and washrooms: These are located within the clubhouse and are mains water, fully flushable. There is also a fully accessible toilet.

Terrain and accessibility:  The club is located on the side of a fairly steep hill so courses that are laid out do include shots which necessitate some walking up and down steep sections of ground.  Paths are cleared where possible, but the area is environmentally sensitive, so paths can be uneven in many places. It is mainly woodland but with some open field shots usually included.

Shot types: The varied terrain allows for a wide variety of shots; steep uphill, downhill, cross slopes and including the infamous ‘Quarry Shot’ which challenges even the best of archers. The courses are not permanent, meaning that each event is different to the last and so archers can expect to be challenged every time they come to Pentref.

Special features:  Pentref is a club that welcomes, supports and encourages new and inexperienced archers as well as those who are new to field and 3D. The club was set up over 60 years ago and has held many prestigious events.  It has produced a many archers who have competed internationally for GB in field and 3D and also at the Commonwealth Games in 2010.  Pentref hosted the World Field Archery Championships in 2008 too.

Glyn Rudd Memorial (Glamorgan Champs-field)

British 3D Championships -

Welsh Field Championship -

-------------------------------------------------------------

FROM THE GLAMORGAN FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS ORGANISER 2021.

The Glamorgan Field Championships are usually held in March as part of our Glyn Rudd Memorial Shoot.   This year they had to be delayed because of Covid-19, but finally took place on Saturday 25th September.

The weather was kind to us, warm and dry, and the course was firm under foot and easy to walk around.  (We now avoid setting targets on our steeper slopes.)   There were plenty of tricky shots though, a tribute to the course designers' skill.

Just as important, Pentref's famous shoot catering was allowed to resume, so custard slice addicts could get their fix again.

Forty-four archers shot, including 13 from Glamorgan and 31 from elsewhere.   Glamorgan was represented in most of the gents' events, including longbow, traditional, instinctive, barebow, compound barebow, and compound unlimited, but the only ladies' events in which Glamorgan was represented was the under 15 ladies' barebow.

Hopefully, as things get back to normal, there will be more archers taking part in next year's championships in March.  It would also be nice to welcome archers from Glamorgan clubs other than Pentref.
